not that i promote drinking…

Hard to find outside of MichiganWhile comparing tastes in alcohol Katie asked the question well what is Cherry Kirsch anyhow?

Ah, the memories. From the parties at Michigan State to the late night Meijer runs to find it, nothing beats a 90 proof “Cherry” Coke. I have Derek to thank for the introduction and Amy for carrying on the tradition. If you’re looking for a strong mixed beverage that doesn’t taste like a cocktail then this is for you.

Not as overdone as Jack & Coke, or Rum & Coke, not a fruity concoction like Sex on the Beach, nope this a unique beverage its base ingredient I have only ever seen in Michigan.

Of course, my days of drinking until saturation are behind me, but on those celebratory occasions it’s fun to introduce folks to something that appears new & refreshing.

And it’s a good chaser for Mind Erasers & Dead Nazi shots.

UPDATE 5:10PM – Got a quite a few questions via e-mail so let me sum up:

Mind Eraser Shot – this is a shot containing 1/3 Kahlua, 1/3 Vodka & 1/3 Tonic Water. The shot is layered not mixed. Add ice then slowly pour Kahlua, Vodka then Tonic. Remember NOT to mix the shot and slurp quickly through a straw.

Dead Nazi Shot – a little simpler to make this is simply one shot of Jagermeister topped off with Rumplemintz. You can mix 50-50 if the Jager is too strong. This shot is also known as the Burning Nazi. Oh and don’t let anyone fool you into using any brand of Peppermint Schnapps instead of Rumplemintz. It is not the same shot.

In closing, here’s the Habanero Tequila story Rick was asking about. (View the picture and click the link for the text story window)

I’m starting to wonder if it’s still around MI…. I’m having a hard time finding it!!! ACK!!!
Don’t fret, my quest will end with multiple bottles of cherry kirsch in my possession (and most likely some drunken debauchery, after all, I have a reputation to uphold!!)…. I think I found my new hobby. 🙂 I’ve been told to get a hobby (well, other than my current one)

A.J. has had some wierd drinks around me. Care to share the Habinero Chili Tequila story?

  • Rick May 12, 2003   Reply →

Excellent update! You know… for the first minute or so A.J. kept his composure…. “I’m cool.” Then he disappeared for a good 15-20 minutes in the bathroom. It was a short night out.

I, of course, don’t have the cajones to try that sh*t. Bravo A.J.!

Of course, just a moment ago I tapped Rick on IM and reminded him he left BEFORE I had the shot. It was Bobby who was actually there for the whole thing.

Oh, and it might have been ten minutes in the restroom. *chuckle*

Retract that last comment…. it was our buddy Bobby with the 15-20 minutes in the bathroom. A.J. took it like a man.

A.J. has an iron stomatch. He is the Scorpion King. There can be only ONE.

And this is a subtle little reminder for me relating directly to why I love Geeze, A.J. didn’t anybody inform you that I am already an alcoholic? It’s not like I have to be persuaded or anything. =) Thank you for the wonderful addition to the “need a drink?” section of my brain. My liver thanks you (or maybe not). Michelle, I take it back, don’t kick his ass, thank him for having the know-how to make a unique drink (Cosmos are good, but not exactly hard to find). =)

Okay this has nothing to do with the post, but has the “I was twitching like a man whose prostate was being bitten by spiders.” quote always been there? I’ve never noticed it before, but funny!

Charles – Bring Elisabeth down, who needs a big fancy wedding anyways?

  • Amy May 13, 2003   Reply →

    Yeah, the more the merrier!!!!!
We just can’t relive that one pre-Thanksgiving drink-a-thon where I did way too many mind erasers and went home with the wrong people….. AJ will NEVER let me forget that one!!!
Charles, hire a wedding planner and come down and party!!

  • Charles May 13, 2003   Reply →

(sigh) Wish we could, really–but poor Elisabeth will be taking her 3rd trip in less than 3 weeks this weekend (she was in Montreal on a business trip last week, has another one this week, and the two of us are shlepping down to Florida this weekend for my neice’s Bat Mitzvah).

So, be sure to take plenty o’ pictures so I can live vicariously through ’em 🙂

I am so with Charles–pictures are in order come Monday, regardless of any hangover that may/may not occur.
