June 6 – Week Recap

Good morning everyone. Here’s a recap of this week’s shared content:

1. Ten More Things About Photoshop posted on TipSquirrel. Part of my Top Ten series, you can never have enough Photoshop tips.

2. Working with Nested Styles in InDesign posted on Layers Magazine. InDesign is definitely a “must know” app for designers, especially now in the era of ebooks & tablet computing.

3. Learning Digital Photography Podcast #59 posted on Canon Blogger. YES! It finally happened, I’m actually talking in real time LIVE with none other than Mr. Jason Anderson. I try to get serious, he makes me laugh, you won’t see any of it because it’s an audio podcast.

4. I’ve been helping Sonya Bowser with her children’s book “The Adventures of Zolie Z“. It’s been a fun project that I can share with my daughter.

5. I am VERY EXCITED to have written the featured Lightroom article in the June issue of Photoshop User magazine. I have to give credit to Mike Mackenzie whose editing expertise really makes my writing exemplary. It’s an honor to write for a magazine that I actually read each month and work with the outstanding folks at NAPP. Remember, as your NAPP Evangelist, you can use my name “ajwood” when you join NAPP to receive a free DVD & discount off your membership. NAPP has also been gracious enough to let me post a PDF of my article here are the website. Download A.J.’s Lightroom Article from PSU Magazine.

5. Changes to my YouTube channel. Starting next Monday, I’ll be posting videos three times a week on Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Tutorials will continue but future videos will include interviews, product/service reviews, and a few surprises for YOU my loyal viewers.

Well, that’s been my crazy week. Enjoy your weekend and I’ll catch you next week!

Create a Rubik’s Cube Photo Frame with Photoshop

Yesterday, Janine Smith posted a Photoshop tutorial over on TipSquirrel entitled Cubism. If you don’t know Janine, she’s an award-winning photo restoration artist, and MUCH MORE creative than myself. Before you watch my video, be sure to read her tutorial. (That’s where you’ll find the PSD file Janine created that I use in the video) It’s a great idea, and I wish I had thought of it. Being the Photoshop technician that I am, I quickly broke down the steps to come up with Cubism 2.0. That’s the great thing about Photoshop–talk to 100 different experts you’ll get 100 different methods to accomplish the same task. Thanks to Janine for being this morning’s Photoshop inspiration. Enjoy!

I Need PSW Love

Alrighty. I had planned a much longer post hours ago, when I hadn’t started ALL the things I started that I just now finished, which has me up late/early instead of sleeping, which would be a good idea considering I have a Flash class in about 7 hours. With that in mind, let me get to the point – I need your help to get to Photoshop World. Now, I’m not talking about a fundraiser. Don’t want your money–but feel free to hire me for your training needs ;^) –no, what I need is your support in convincing the wonderful folks at NAPP that yours truly would be an awesome speaker. If you’ve ever taken a class from me, if you enjoy my Twitter Adobe tips, if my tutorials on LayersMagazine.com rock your socks off, then tell a friend, hug a stranger, write your Congressman, tell your Twitter peeps, shout it on Facebook, post on the NAPP forums–you want to see me deliver my first class at Photoshop World this October 2009.

Send Scott Citron Some Love

I have had the privilege to meet a few folks while growing my business, and traveling the country. Many of them are gurus in the industry, authors, well-respected educators within the Adobe community. One such person is Scott Citron.

While I don’t know Scott very well, I appreciated his dry sense of humor & wit the few times I heard him speak during gatherings of Adobe InDesign chapter leaders. I found him easy to talk to, and we swapped a few stories about clients we had in common.

Recently, Scott was in a very serious car accident. He suffered a number of injuries, was admitted to ICU, and just last week was brought out of sedation after multiple surgeries. One of the first things Scott said upon regaining consciousness was “This sucks.” Sandee Cohen has immortalized those words with a design in support of Scott’s recovery.

Please take a moment to read Scott’s story, leave some get well comments, and purchase some “This Sucks” gear.

UPDATE – 08/07/2008Scott is awake & waving.
